On the bright side, at least it's not a 240.

I think the guy did a pretty good job on the conversion. With V8, it must be fun as hell to drive.

This is a project you could buy an dial in to your own tastes and tinker on it as the heavy lifting appears to have been completed.

V8 S30s are extremely common around here. I went and looked at a swapped 240Z with a 450HP+ 383 swap... and that power with low comp because the engine was built for a turbo that hadn't been added yet. It was interesting, and a nicely built engine, but the car didn't feel built to match.
I personally don't like the feeling of most V8 S30s because they "feel" sluggish just from the engine choice most people make and a huge number are automatic... which is a disgrace. A few I have liked have had smaller displacement, more rev happy 8s, but a lot of times those don't give the big numbers people want or cost significantly more than just dropping a 350 in. If someone had a huge budget and dropped something like a Hartley V8 in, it would be an excellent match, but a carbed iron 350 is not.

Personally I'd want something light and high reving with slightly more oomph than stock.

That's what I wanted, as well as fuel injection, upgrade potential, fuel economy, and durability. I ended up going SR20DET. They are a dime a dozen, parts are on craigslist, in this car I'll be in the upper 20's for MPG, and I have a huge range of power options. In stock trim with FMIC I will be pushing a significant amount more power than the factory iron 6 and be shedding a lot of weight while also pushing the weight behind the first axle.
A lot of people would prefer to stay with a straight 6, as I would have, but I just couldn't see going RB25 or 26 for my purposes. They are just a little too much on the exotic side (especially the 26) for parts and upgrades compared to the SR.
My last S30 was just a built L24, which was fun when we could just break 200HP NA... but we were so high comp that it required av gas to really run properly and not knock, had either custom parts or really rare parts, and was always at 99%. Obviously this was not a situation to be in and drive on the street. Even bending over backwards to accommodate it, the engine was always breaking bits and eventually just became too much to deal with.

Needs more AMC straight 6

Yeah, then you aren't Nissan and even more purists will be out for blood. At least this way as they are lighting the torches and sharpening the pitchforks I can calm them down saying it's as true to the spirit as I could get with a modern engine that was still Nissan ;)

Are there really such thing as Nissan purists?

OS Giken in Japan has started manufacturing their coveted DOHC head for the L series again (the original production run was something silly like 12 or 20 or something), and their display engine pushes north of 400 horsepower N/A with carbs (with a redline at 11 or 12 I believe). There are always multiple ways of doing things, and some are better than others. From what I can gather, the L28 seems like a slightly better option, especially when fuel injected.
As for the RB series, if you're fine with sourcing parts from 'Straya then the RB30E is supposedly a cheap and not too complicated N/A engine.

Just like any manufacturer. There are even a lot that don't like that it's not a "Datsun" product.

Yeah, but then you are going to push the build rapidly toward the $35,000 mark and be ordering custom parts again.
L28 is the cheapest way, which is why most people go that route. I was originally looking at going the Rebello (
http://www.rebelloracing.com/
) stroker route, but that would have put me over $10,000 into what would be another custom engine.
This way I can order all my parts easily and get many of them right off the shelf in a parts store while still making plenty of power for the S30 chassis.

Stop cramming mac 'n' cheese in my sushi, damnit! I love both but they're disgusting when mixed together.

THAT'S DIFFERENT (and delicious)!
That S30 is more like a fine plate of fish-based sushi that have been smashed with a fist a few times before high school quality mac 'n' cheese was unceremoniously thrown onto the plate.

Not ok with this. The straight 6 is part of these cars' character. Swapping in a V8 makes them too similar to the other cars that were available at the time, and this less interesting (the other cars already exist, why not make the Z better rather than change it into a pony car).
I like the white lettering on the tyre though. That looks great.

I really like it. I wouldn't have given it 10 inch wide tires though, that's just too much.- I would want to de-tub the arches and get the car into daily driver shape.
